1822 DESCRIPTIONDEPUIS la traduction des caractères de Théophraste par La Bruyère, cet ouvragé a reçu des additions importantes; et d'excellents critiques en ont éclairi beaucoup de passages difficiles. En 1712, Needham publia les leçons de Dupôrt sur treize de ces caractères. En 1768, Fischer résuma dans une édition critique presque tout ce qui avoit été fait pour cet ouvrage , et y ajouta des recherches nouvelles. En 1786, M. Amadùzzi publia deux nouveaux caractères, que Prosper Petronius avoit découverts, et qui se trouvent, à la suite des anciens, dans un manuscrit de là bibliothèqùe palatine du Vatican. En 1790 , le citoyen Belin de Ballu traduisit ces deux caractères ett françois et les joignit à une édition de La Bruyère, dans laquelle il ajouta quelques notes critiques à celles dont Goste avoit accompagné la traduction de Théophraste dans les éditions précédentes.
